Pachino

Pachino is an Italian town of the free municipal consortium of Syracuse in Sicily. Pachino is the city that hosts the PGI cultivation of cherry tomatoes called, in fact, Pachino.

Pachino is located in the extreme south east of Sicily, 51 kilometers from Syracuse. The neighboring municipalities are: Noto to the north, Portopalo di Capo Passero to the south and Ispica to the west. The beaches of the Pachino territory shape the coast for a total of 8 kilometers. The best known are those of Lido, Cavettone and Morghella on the Ionian coast (starting from Marzamemi towards the south), while on the Mediterranean coast there are those of Cuffara (also known as Carratois), Costa dell'Ambra, in the Contrada Concerie area, Scarpitta , Chiappa and Raneddi (Granelli), up to the Ulisse port. The sea, clear and of an intense blue on the Ionian coast, also considering the seabed, is instead emerald green on the Mediterranean coast; rich in fish fauna, it is very fishy, which makes the area an important commercial reference, especially for the Catania fish market.

Pachino has a subtropical Mediterranean climate. Located 65 meters above sea level, in the south-eastern part of the province of Syracuse, straddling the Mediterranean and Ionian seas, Pachino has a dry climate in spring and autumn, mild in winter and sultry heat in summer. The city is often windy in spring and summer. Precipitation is concentrated mainly during the winter. Snow is a very rare phenomenon. The episodes in which the thermometer dropped to zero degrees date back to February 1929, February 1956 and January 1, 2015.
