Portone del Melograno

If you are in the San Salvario area, near via Nizza, and more precisely in the adjacent via Argentero, you will be able to see a magnificent entrance door of a characteristic building that the inhabitants of Turin have nicknamed "Pomegranate Gate". The building is reminiscent in several aspects of some Spanish houses whose characteristics are found in the use of colored majolica and iron to support the balconies.

The beautiful and particular entrance door of the building is in wrought iron. Inside are carved two pomegranate trees rich in green leaves and red fruits, inserted in a peacock-tailed frame in a floral style. Needless to say, as with most Turin art nouveau buildings, here too is the hand of Pietro Fenoglio who designed it back in 1907.

If you are passionate about liberty, but if you are also just looking for hearty buildings in Turin, the Melograno door in San Salvario is definitely a must-see stop.
