San Rocco Square

The historic center of Scilla develops around Piazza San Rocco, where, among other things, the church of San Rocco patron of Scilla, and the town hall are located. Piazza San Rocco consists of a vast terrace built on a rocky ridge, overlooking the panorama of the Strait of Messina. The gaze embraces Punta Pacì (which delimits the southern end of the Scilla area), Sicily (in particular Ganzirri and, on clear days, Capo Milazzo), in the distance some of the Aeolian Islands (Lipari, Panarea and Stromboli), and the Ruffo Castle.

The historic center includes the ancient town of Bastìa, characterized by the low houses overlooking the characteristic alleys. Some architectural elements of the original local style remain visible in the existing buildings, including the characteristic lowered arch and the typical circular window.
