Asiago is an Italian town in the province of Vicenza in the Veneto region. Main center of the Sette Comuni plateau, on the border with Trentino, it was once the capital of the Regatta of the Seven Municipalities.
After the Spring Offensive in the First World War, Asiago was in no man's land and suffered terrible bombings that completely razed it to the ground. It is a well-known location for winter tourism (in particular for Nordic skiing) and summer tourism (hiking, mountain biking), the most important on the plateau. Asiago also links its name to dairy products known all over the world.
Asiago is located on a plateau at an average altitude of 1000 meters above sea level, in the northern part of the Province of Vicenza bordering the Province of Trento. It is surrounded to the north by a mountain range with reliefs that exceed 2000 meters in height (maximum elevation in Cima XII) and to the south by another chain of mountains with lower elevations.
Both the mountains to the north and those to the south are mainly covered by extensive forests: in particular, above 1700-1800 meters, the prevalent vegetation consists of mountain pine woods with the presence of larch, while lower spruce, white fir and beech.
