Avio

Avio is an Italian town of 4,094 inhabitants in the province of Trento. Avio is about 50 kilometers from Trento. Compared to the capital it is southbound. It is the southernmost municipality in the province and in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. It is located in Vallagarina in its southernmost stretch and is furrowed in the course of the Adige river (Avio capital is located on the orographic right of the river). It borders to the south with the Veneto (province of Verona).

The valley in which the municipality is located is delimited by some mountain massifs: the chain of Monte Baldo to the west which separates from Lake Garda, a north of the Brentonico plateau and is the Lessinia plateau, in the Verona area.

The area was part of the courtyard of the Monastery of San Colombano del Priorato di Bardolino since the Lombard period, dependent on the Abbey of San Colombano di Bobbio (PC) and on the great monastic fiefdom of Bobbio. The monks evangelized the area favoring the expansion of trade, agriculture (especially the vine and the olive tree), the fishing system, and culture, introducing important innovations and opening trade routes.
