Stiffe Caves

The Stiffe Caves are, technically speaking, a "resurgence", ie the point where a river comes to light after an underground stretch; in the case of Stiffe this point is located at the apex of the ravine overlooking the small town of the same name.

The resurgence of Stiffe has been known for many years by the inhabitants of the place, in fact there are documents that trace its knowledge of the first environments in very distant times. Precisely the presence of a copious stream of water inside the cave allowed, at the beginning of the twentieth century, the construction of a hydroelectric plant: powered by the waters transported downstream by means of a forced conduit, some of which is still visible near the entrance, and was a source of energy until its destruction occurred during the Second World War.

The tourist enhancement project of the cave dates back to over thirty years ago, but only in the eighties was the construction of the same, in order to arrive, in 1991, at the inauguration of the Tourist Complex "Grotte di Stiffe"
