Basilica di Santa Maria Ausiliatrice

The basilica of Santa Maria Ausiliatrice is a Catholic place of worship in Rome, located in the Tuscolano district, in the homonymous square. Parish since March 25, 1932 with the apostolic constitution Inter pastoralis of Pius XI, and entrusted to the Salesians, it was built on a project by the architects Nicola Mosso and Giulio Valotti between 1931 and 1936.

The temple was consecrated on the morning of May 17, 1936 by Cardinal Francesco Marchetti Selvaggiani, vicar general of the diocese of Rome, while, in the afternoon, Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli, secretary of state, future Pope Pius XII presided over the rite.

His first parish priest, Don Salvatore Rotolo (1881-1969), then titular bishop of Nazianzo and auxiliary of Velletri, later prelate nullius of Altamura and Acquaviva delle Fonti, is buried inside the basilica. Since 1967 it has been the seat of the cardinal title of Santa Maria Ausiliatrice in via Tuscolana and since April 1969 it has the dignity of a minor basilica.
