Palace of Piane

The prestigious and valuable Palace of Piane is one of the highest artistic summits of Liberty Savonese. The fairytale "Palace of Piane" is also known as "Palace of Palle" because of the six large copper spheres placed on the roof and supported by a brazier-shaped structure.

It is another masterpiece of the engineer and architect Alessandro Martinengo and was created, with the collaboration of Adolfo Ravignetti, between 1910 and 1911. For the occasion, Martinengo was inspired by a flow of Floral flowed in Milan by the head of the school Somaruga.

The imaginative and almost organic plastic decoration, including in particular the polychrome presence of majolica depicting anemones in the blue field, is probably indebted for something to the Vienna Secession and to the work of the Turin architect Pietro Fenoglio and the magnificent vision of the classic fake caryatids that run along the entire perimeter of the building.
