Castello Chiaramontano di Palma di Montechiaro

Built in 1353 by order of Frederick III Chiaramonte was, because of its strategic location, of great importance in the history of the fight against pirates.

After the death of Andrea Chiaramonte and the confiscation of all his property, the castle passed to the Moncada family, which changed its name to Montechiaro with the clear intention of erasing the memory of the previous lords.

After various passages the castle came in the 17th century, by female line, to the Tomasi family one member of which, Carlo Tomasi Caro, received from King Philip IV the title of Duke of Palma.
