The origins of Villa di Vignamaggio date back to the early fifteenth century.
The current layout of the villa is the evident and pleasant result of a restructuring that took place between the 15th and 16th centuries, by the will of the Gherardi family, owner of the place since the beginning of the 15th century, which made the architectural complex extremely regular, functional and organic. .
The courtyard inside the structure is built following lines of classic purity with references from Brunelleschi's architecture, while the windows, all with architraves, create a rhythm on the facades broken only by the strong chiaroscuro effects caused by the contrast of the pink plaster with the pietra serena that crowns and finishes the openings.
Outside, the villa is surrounded by an Italian garden formed by an avenue bordered by low shaped box hedges and four symmetrical gardens. Today it is home to a farm specializing in the production of quality wine.
Vignamaggio was chosen as the backdrop for Kenneth Branagh's film version of the classic "Much Ado About Nothing".
