Monastero di Bose, parish church of Cellole

The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in Cellole, "one of the most important Romanesque churches dating back to the XII century existing in the territory" of Valdelsa - according to the opinion of Professor Antonio Paolucci -, is located in the municipality of San Gimignano (whose territory is located in province and, for the most part, in the diocese of Siena), within the magnificent landscape of the Valdelsa hills.

Parish, together with Libbiano, of the diocese of Volterra, the Romanesque church rises not far from one of the hilly routes of the Via Romea / Francigena, four kilometers from San Gimignano.

The remains found in the territory of Cellole, as well as its name (from the Etruscan cela, "small sacred place"), testify to the Etruscan origin of the first local settlements.

The entire complex of the Romanesque parish is composed of a series of buildings built over time around the original nucleus of the church, close to the parish itself and forming a courtyard closed by a wall with a door.

The community hosts monks and nuns of different Christian faiths. Bose is very active in hospitality.
