Caffè Pedrocchi, located in the center of Padua, is an internationally renowned historic café in Art Nouveau style (a beautiful example of Italian Liberty).
Open day and night until 1916 and therefore also known as the "Café without doors", for over a century it was a prestigious meeting point frequented by intellectuals, students, academics and politicians.
Between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the consumption of coffee also spread in Italy and the tradition of coffee as a bourgeois circle and as an open meeting point, as opposed to the private dimension of the noble salons, has been affirmed.
In Padua the additional presence of over three thousand people including students, traders and soldiers meant that, more than in other city centers, this type of activity developed.
On February 8, 1848, the wounding of a university student inside the room gave way to the Italian Risorgimento riots; even today the episode is remembered in the official university hymn, Di canti di gioia.
The Egyptian Art Nouveau style room located on the first floor in the left wing with a terrace overlooking the square is beautiful.
