The Giglio Onlus association was founded on March 6, 2002 in Turin from the need to get involved, creating concrete support for families whose children are hospitalized for long-stay illnesses at the Regina Margherita Children's Hospital. To be sure to help those most in need, the association creates a continuous and fruitful contact with the hospital social workers: it does not care what illnesses the children may be suffering from, the need, when it exists, is urgent and painful for everyone.
Thus a disease-free association was born whose service is totally free: families can use the apartments until their children are discharged from the hospital at no cost.
In 17 years there have been 6 apartments made available for this service, more than 150 families hosted, 102 performances of plays produced by our theater company, 45 events staged, 50 Lily volunteers employed in wrapping Christmas gifts.
On May 14, 2019, Casa Giglio was inaugurated: a social housing project capable of housing 11 families, with a multipurpose room and common spaces for families and the Turin community. The goal is to try to make parents of young children hospitalized at Regina Margherita Children's Hospital feel less lonely and soothe as much as possible.
Casa Giglio is located in 800 square meters on Via Cappel Verde 2 corner of Via XX Settembre, in a wing of the former Seminary of the Diocese of Turin.
Casa Giglio is a project of the Giglio Onlus association, which has housed more than 150 families free of charge since 2002, carried out in collaboration with Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino and thanks to the Housing Program of Compagnia di San Paolo as a major supporter, with the support of Fondazione CRT and with contributions from Banca d'Italia and UniCredit, and under the patronage of Città Metropolitana di Torino and Comune di Santena.
Renovation work on the property, which took just two years, required an investment of about 1 million euros.
