Chestnut Festival of Vallerano (Viterbo).
Absolute queen of the specialties of the Viterbo Tuscia, the chestnut of Vallerano, the only one to have received the D.O.P. together with brown, it will again be the protagonist of the month of October.
There are many cultural and food and wine events, to live a complete experience dedicated to families, tourists, enthusiasts of the sector: from historical excursus on the First World War to parades of medieval flag-wavers and musicians who will parade in the historic center of the village, up to guided tours , among alleys, churches and rock trekking, with many moments also dedicated to children and craft markets. Lunches and dinners are not to be missed in the characteristic tuff cellars, open for the occasion with themed menus and primary local ingredients that will go on to flavor homemade pasta, soups, stews and typical desserts.
The festival program will be enriched by antiques and crafts markets.
In Piazza della Repubblica you can taste roasted chestnuts by the organization of the festival.
The visitor can be accompanied by valid tourist guides to learn about the history of the country and its numerous and remarkable artistic and cultural beauties.
At a chestnut factory it will be possible to observe live the modern techniques of processing chestnuts and marrons.
The Amici della Castagna in collaboration with the Archaeological Group of Vallerano will organize a walk through the centuries-old chestnut groves and to sites of historical interest.
In the historic center you can enter the old cellars where chestnuts were processed.
The works of various local artists of considerable skill will be exhibited in some rooms in the historic center and book presentations will be held.
