The Central Institute for Graphics is a special institute of the Directorate-General for Fine Arts and Landscape of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism. The current name has been active since 10 December 2014 (DPCM 29 August 2014, n.171, art.30).
In 1975 the National Institute for Graphics was born from the union of National Chalcography, of pontifical heritage and the National Prints and Drawings Department.
In 2008, this scientific unification finally resulted in the meeting in a single location: the adjoining buildings of Palazzo Poli and the Chalcography entered into logistical communication, and at the same time the distinct collections of Chalcography and the Cabinet of Prints were unified.
The heritage of the Central Institute for Graphics is considerable both in quantity and in variety and quality: thousands of drawings, prints, matrices, photographs and artist videos.
