In 1975 the National Institute for Graphics was born from the union of National Chalcography, of pontifical heritage and the National Prints and Drawings Department.

In 2008, this scientific unification finally resulted in the meeting in a single location: the adjoining buildings of Palazzo Poli and the Chalcography entered into logistical communication, and at the same time the distinct collections of Chalcography and the Cabinet of Prints were unified.
