ASSOCIATION HEADQUARTERS of the Amateurs Club Figurative Arts of Empoli.
It was Saturday 26 October 1957 when at the office of Notary Giuseppe Masi: I Signori Carmignani Virgilio painter; Gambassi Piero painter; Giuntini Ruffo sculptor, Cecchi Giovanni painter; Tognetti Piero painter; Lensi Orlando painter want to set up an association of painters, sculptors, critics and art lovers with the name: CIRCOLO AMATORI ARTI FIGURATIVE ... the associates can be of any nationality, race and religion, also saying that the association includes all artistic trends and cultural heritage, which today is located in the Palazzo Ghibellino in Piazza Farinata, where the leader defended Florence from the intentions of destruction. The building owned by the Guidi Counts was renovated by the Giomi who decorated the facade in the early 1600s with frescoes that paid homage to the Medici family.
Almost 60 years later this club is still alive; there are now numerous artistic events and exhibitions of painting, sculpture, ceramics that have taken place there, together with promotional activities such as conferences, book presentations, organization of excursions to museums, etc.
There are three rooms with vaults that welcome the club, plus a basement with a barrel-vaulted brick roof; the square, called "dei Leoni" for the beautiful neoclassical fountain, has always been the center of important events such as the ancient representation of the Flight of Ciuco. Piazza Farinata degli Uberti hosts markets framed by arcades and is dominated by the splendid Romanesque façade of the Collegiata, the first testimony of the Florentine style typical of the Baptistery and San Miniato a Monte.
The Circolo Arti Figurative lives its seasons of art giving the possibility to those who want to exhibit to be able to do so so that the freedom of artistic expression is maintained as it was in the spirit of the Founders.
