Zattere V-A-C Foundation

Zattere is V-A-C Foundation’s Venetian headquarters launched in spring 2017.

This newly renovated historic palazzo, situated on Zattere overlooking the Canale della Giudecca, can accommodate exhibitions, events and residencies.

The Foundation commissioned local architect Alessandro Pedron to restore and renovate the building, transforming it into a new centre for contemporary culture for the city of Venice.

The entire space covers 2000 sq metres over four levels, half of which is exhibition space. In spring 2018, the foundation launched two new long-term projects at Zattere: sudest 1401 is a sociocultural project launched by V-A-C with Hamed Ahmadi, a political refugee from Afganistan who took refuge in Venice some years ago.

Sharing and combining traditional foods that trace the journey made by refugees to Italy is the key to the sudest 1401 project, along with the mutual desire for dialogue among diverse cultures. sudest 1401 bar and restaurant at Palazzo delle Zattere is open everyday from 8am to 11pm.

Additionally, V-A-C have launched the first phase of a long-term strategy to engage with the city: Laguna Viva (Living Lagoon) is an outdoor installation in the form of a typical lagoon saltmarsh habitat, arranged according to botanical associations and functional morphology and housed in two large tanks.

This ongoing project is developed by London based collective Assemble with local organisation We Are Here Venice.
