The Fryderyk Chopin Museum is a museum in Warsaw, which houses the world's largest collection on Fryderyk Chopin, with over 7500 pieces.
The origins of the Museum date back to the 1930s, with the foundation of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute.
The first group of objects, acquired by the great-granddaughter of Chopin's sister, consisted of 13 handwritten scores including the Trio in G minor Op. 8 for piano, violin and cello.
After the Second World War, in 1945, the Fryderyk Chopin Institute was reactivated with headquarters in Warsaw, in Zgoda, and since 1953 in the Ostrogski Castle, which is the current headquarters.
Here you can find the Museum, the Library, the Music Library and the Photo Library.
The most valuable pieces of the museum collections, such as the autographs of Chopin's works, his letters and portraits were acquired mainly abroad, in antique shops or at auctions.
