The Villa Gabrieli park

The villa, very large, occupied in its original extension almost entirely the northern portion of the Janiculum. Built on existing gardens and gardens, the property acquired a unitary character towards the end of the 18th century, when Prince Pietro Gabrielli of Prossedi commissioned architect Francesco Rust to restore the casino and design the vast park.

The latter, known for its vastness and beauty, was a frequent destination of the Grand Tour because of the unspoiled landscape over the entire city, and the very close view on the dome of St. Peter's. Particularly famous was the avenue lined with pines, the remnant of a previous Baroque garden, which ran along the ridge of the Gianicolo and served as a backdrop for the entire city.
