Village of Gesualdo

Gesualdo is a village in the heart of Irpinia.

Gesualdo is an Italian town in the province of Avellino in Campania. It welcomed the composer Carlo Gesualdo who, on the run for tragic events, stayed here and died.

"Gesualdo is a village as pleasant and vague to the eye as one could wish with a truly sweet and healthy air", wrote Alfonso Fontanelli, diplomat of the Casa d’Este in 1594.

Even today, the vast and beautiful panorama that unfolds from the lookout point from the castle and the clean and fragrant air are a feature and a richness that fills the eye and mind with evocative images and emotions.

Walking through the streets, alleys and squares you can admire monuments, churches and characteristic corners for centuries, jealous guardians of an ancient and solid tradition and witnesses of a history marked by the events of extraordinary characters.
