Vernazza is one of the five secular villages that make up the Cinque Terre, on the Ligurian coast in northwestern Italy. Colored houses surround the small marina. The Church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia has a bell tower surmounted by an elegant dome. It is an Italian town of 848 inhabitants in the province of La Spezia in Liguria.
Set among the rocks, Castello Doria is a medieval defensive structure with a cylindrical tower. Just below the castle is the Bastione Belforte. Coming from the west, Vernazza is the second of the Cinque Terre towns, set in a bay between the municipalities of Monterosso al Mare and Riomaggiore. It also includes the next village of Corniglia, its hamlet. Also its territory is characterized by the typical terraces for the cultivation of the vine, a morphological style realized over the centuries by man, which, according to an estimate, has developed for over 7,000 km of dry stone walls.
The territory is part of the Cinque Terre National Park and of the UNESCO site of Porto Venere, Cinque Terre and Islands (Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto). Among the various hiking trails that serve as a link between the towns of the Cinque Terre, the wooded path (marked with the number 507 by the CAI) crosses the hamlet of Casella - in the municipality of Riccò del Golfo - and the Sella della Cigoletta and connects the coast with the medium and low val of Vara. Above the village of Vernazza, at an altitude of 325 meters above sea level, is the sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Reggio, which can also be reached on foot via the 508 route to the Foce di Drignana.
