Castelmezzano

Castelmezzano (Castrëmënzànë in the local dialect) is an Italian town of 787 inhabitants in the province of Potenza in Basilicata. Its territory, together with that of the neighboring municipalities Pietrapertosa, Accettura, Calciano and Oliveto Lucano, forms the Parco delle Dolomiti Lucane. It is part of the "Most beautiful villages in Italy" circuit.

In 2007, the US magazine Budget Travel by Arthur Frommer included Castelmezzano among the best places in the world that we have never heard of. In 2017, The Telegraph included Castelmezzano in its list of "19 most beautiful villages in Italy".

It rises to 750 m s.l.m. in the heart of the Lucan Dolomites not far from the Natural Park of Gallipoli Cognato. Located in the central-eastern part of the province it borders the municipalities of: Pietrapertosa (10 km), Trivigno (13 km), Albano di Lucania (17 km), Laurenzana (18 km) and Anzi (21 km). It is 36 km from Potenza and 81 km from the other Basilicata province of Matera.
