Palazzo PIROLA

The cultural association Palazzo Pirola founded in January 2013, has protected and curated the exhibition spaces of the Freganeschi Pirola palace owned by the municipality of Gorgonzola.

The association has also proposed Palazzo Freganeschi Pirola as a meeting place and aggregation in the name of common cultural interests, in order to encourage meeting opportunities and social relations for the personal enrichment of its members and the community.

The intent was to foster creativity in various expressive fields by expanding the knowledge of musical, literary and artistic culture in general, through contacts between people, organizations and associations.

The Freganeschi Pirola building is located in the central area of ??the Municipality of Gorgonzola (MI) near the Naviglio Martesana. Difficult to date the building exactly.

The construction of the canal in 1457 and its subsequent activation, first for irrigation purposes, then as a means of communication and transport, brought to Gorgonzola a prosperity never known before and attracted many noble families who took their secondary residence in Gorgonzola, including also the Freganeschi family, a noble German family transplanted to Cremona. What is certain is that in 1722, the date of drafting of the first Habsburg cadastre, the Freganeschis owned several land properties in Gorgonzola, in addition to the palace and the garden.

Subsequently, in 1859 the building belonged to the noblewoman Maria Bianchi di Sambrunico and then passed ownership in the early twentieth century to the Pirola family. In recent decades, the noble building has been divided into various properties. Finally, in 2002 the building was placed under ministerial protection;

Following the vast campaign of stratigraphic investigations carried out in 2004 and the approval of the restoration project by the Superintendencies for environmental / architectural and artistic heritage of Milan, the restoration company of Paola Villa was commissioned by the Luigi Cividini company. di Dalmine, owner of the property to take care of the recovery interventions of the wall paintings and decorated coffered ceilings, in a state of serious neglect. The intervention started in early 2009 gave surprising results, such as the rediscovery of decorative elements hidden by numerous layers of whitewashing now considered lost.

The current building is spread over three floors including the ground floor. The current neoclassical aspect of the building is strongly characterized by the entrance portico (pronaos), eccentric to the facade and supported by four granite columns supported by a simple entablature and surmounted by a triangular tympanum.

The ground floor of the building is now owned by the municipality. Large and spacious, the ground floor of Palazzo Freganeschi Pirola consists of 6 rooms for a total of 450 square meters.
