Splendid example of Pisan Romanesque, of construction dating back to the period between 1050 and 1220, built in three phases within this period, located about 4 km from the town on the SS 134 towards Laerru. An integral part of a monastery, of which few traces of the old walls remain on the ground. Once it housed several wooden altars and a 13th century wooden group of the Deposition by an unknown artist of the Florentine school. These works are now found in the Parish of Bulzi.
Located in the center of Anglona, ??it is located on a line that includes 8 churches: S. Maria di Tergu, S. Pancrazio, S. Nicola di Silanis (ruins, partially restored), S. Maria di Solio or S. Annunziata ( ruins), S. Giovanni, S. Elia, S. Pietro di Simbranos (disappeared church, it was located north of the town of Bulzi, with which in some guides is often confused St. Peter of the Images) and St. Peter of the Images. The aforementioned churches were part of abbey complexes mostly Benedictine (Cassinesi) and had been donated by the Judges of Torres to the monks of Montecassino in the 12th century.
Some studies hypothesize the identification of this Church with that of San Pietro di Nurchi, named in the documents attesting the Cassinesi possessions but never found. This theory was exposed for the first time in the book "A sign in time" by Annamaria Premoli in 1997. In addition, Roman remains have been found and this leads to consider it a sacred pagan area. It was probably also reused in the Byzantine era. In the last year the church has been subjected to restoration and research works, both inside and in the adjacent area that was the pertinence of the monastery.
Now it is also possible to follow an alternative itinerary to the state road, which thanks to a wooden bridge recently built by the Municipality allows, on foot or by bike, to reach the church following part of the ancient route that connected Bulzi to it. Furthermore, in the surrounding area there is a source of the Roman age, which feeds the fountain in the square in front of the church, and further away the Nuraghe Rodas, four-lobed with traces of a nuragic village.
