Building of the Priors - Hall of Notaries

The Building of the Priors, or municipal, is one of the best examples in Italy of a public palace from the communal age. It stands in the central Piazza IV Novembre in Perugia, Umbria.

It was built in the Gothic style between 1293 and 1443 in several construction phases.

The irregularity of the facades is explained in the long construction process, aimed at continuous additions and incorporations of pre-existing buildings.

The oldest part is the one that houses the Hall of Notaries (Sala dei Notari), that is the corner part between Piazza IV Novembre and Corso Vannucci, consisting of three three-light windows with a trilobate portal on the square side and ten three-light and four-light windows on the Corso side.

On the ground floor was a large porch.

It was the first construction site, carried out between 1293 and 1297 by the Perugian architects Jacopo di Servadio and Giovannello di Benvenuto.
