Soragna Tarasconi Palace

Soragna Tarasconi Palace is a large Renaissance-style building in Parma.

The palace was built towards the end of the sixteenth century at the behest of the brothers Scipione and Alessandro Tarasconi, on a probable project by Giovanni Francesco Testa, [2] incorporating part of the pre-existing fourteenth-century buildings, with an articulated conformation.

Following the architect's death, Giovanni Battista Magnani almost certainly succeeded him, intervening in the important expansion, subsequent to 1604, concerning the west wing of the building and the entire south portion on the current road to Ponte Caprazucca, where the pre-existing portico was demolished.

Already around the middle of the seventeenth century a new architect intervened, who created the characteristic spiral spiral staircase in the south-west corner of the central courtyard and raised the windows on the external fronts of the highest floor of the building, which however remained unfinished.

In 1857 the last count Luigi Tarasconi, without direct descendants, appointed the marquis Luigi Lupo Meli Lupi di Soragna as his universal heir, who the following year added the surname Tarasconi to his own, combining the noble coats of arms of the two families.

In 1860 the first headquarters of the Cassa di Risparmio di Parma were inaugurated inside the building, which was later moved to the building in Piazza Garibaldi.

Finally, between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, the rear elevation of the building, which opened onto the rear courtyard, was slightly changed and some internal changes were made.

In 2014 the Meli Lupi marquises of Soragna Tarasconi sold the building to the entrepreneur Corrado Galloni, who the following year started the restoration works of the entire structure.

Today the Tarasconi Palace hosts exhibitions and events of great cultural interest.

In November 2021 it also aims a Banksy (... but is it true or is it a fake?)
