RISO - Museum of Contemporary Art of Sicily - Belmonte Riso Palace

RISO - Museum of Contemporary Art of Sicily is a museum institution housed in the homonymous eighteenth-century palace in Palermo, in the historic Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

Palazzo Belmonte Riso was designed by Giuseppe Venanzio Marvuglia in 1784 in a clear neoclassical style.

The first owner was the prince of Belmonte Giuseppe Emanuele Ventimiglia and only in the 19th century did it pass to the Riso family.

The marble coat of arms of the family, which can be admired above the main entrance, was made by Ignazio Marabitti, as well as the neoclassical sculptures of the central balcony.

During the Second World War a bomb hit the building causing part of it to collapse and after years of neglect it was recovered.

The museum

During 2008, works were started to set up the museum and those for the creation of additional services (cafeteria and bookshop).

Following the restructuring, which in the future involves the construction of further extensions (consisting of the reconstruction of the buildings that were destroyed during the Second World War), the museum of contemporary art of Sicily has thus become one of the most important exhibition spaces in the region.

At its opening, the museum was equipped with a structure for the promotion of Sicilian contemporary art: the SACS (Desk for Contemporary Art of Sicily) consists of an archive whose materials are available online and can be consulted in paper form. at the museum premises.

In 2010 the SACS Gallery was established inside the museum.

The museum also has an educational sector.
