Co-cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta

The co-cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is the main place of worship in Pienza, in the province of Siena, co-cathedral of the diocese of Montepulciano-Chiusi-Pienza.

The complex, which stands on the site of the ancient parish church of Santa Maria, but oriented in a different way, was designed to be scenographically inserted in the main square of the town, Piazza Pio II.

It was built by the will of Pope Pius II Piccolomini between 1459 and 1462 by Bernardo Rossellino during the renewal of the city.
