Squillace Castle


Squillace Castle is the Norman castle built in 1044 in Squillace in Calabria.

It has an architecture that does not follow a precise canon and was altered for long periods. It has stone walls and an ashlar portal with the Borgia coat of arms.

Originally on the area of the current castle the castle monastery of Cassiodoro was built, which in the Byzantine period became a Kastron, that is a fortification, with the arrival of the Normans in the people of Guglielmo Braccio di Ferro and Guaimaro V in 1044 the castle was built .

Subsequently it passes from hand to the Borgia family.
