Palace or Castle of Cuba

La Cuba, Palazzo della Cuba, or Castello della Cuba, is a pavilion of delights, originally inside one of the Royal Sollazzi of the Norman kings of Sicily. It is located in Palermo in the neighborhood of the same name.

It is also called "Cuba petticoat" to distinguish it from the soprana Cuba, now incorporated in the eighteenth-century villa Di Napoli and from the Piccola Cuba, located in the ancient Genoardo royal park.

In the following centuries, Cuba was destined for the most varied uses.

The lake was drained and pavilions were built on the banks, used as a hospital from the plague of 1576 to 1621.

Then it was housing for a company of Burgundian mercenaries and finally property of the state in 1921.

Passed to the Sicilian Region, in the 1980s the restoration began which brought to light the 12th century structures.

Today it depends on the "Palermo regional center for parks and archaeological museums" of the regional department for cultural heritage.
