Soverato

Soverato is an Italian town in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria. Third most important and most populated municipality in the province, after the capital and Lamezia Terme, it is located in the southern part of the Gulf of Squillace, about 30 km away from the regional capital. In 2015 Soverato was awarded the green flag for 'child-friendly' beaches awarded by Italian pediatricians, confirming the recognition also in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. In 2017, 2018 and 2019 the Ionian city was awarded the Blue Flag, the authoritative European recognition awarded by the FEE.

Soverato, set like a pearl in the Gulf of Squillace, stands on a hilly slope between the valleys of the ancient Caecinus, today's Ancinale, and those of the Beltrame torrent. Soverato is divided into three contingent zones, the first on the coast (Soverato Marina), the second on the low hill, not far and slightly detached from the first (Soverato Superiore) and the third, at the same height as the second, represents what remains of the old Soverato, destroyed by the 1783 earthquake (Soverato Vecchia). The population is mainly centralized in the lower part of the town.

The sand of the long beaches of Soverato is white and fine, the waters crystal clear with a sandy bottom. Thanks to the discovery of small caves between the towns of San Nicola and Spina Santa, recognized as funerary caves of the Siculo period, it can be said that Soverato had very ancient origins.
