Palazzo Mazzetti

Palazzo Mazzetti is a baroque palace in Asti, overlooking the Contrada Maestra (the current Corso Alfieri). It is the seat of the Asti art gallery. According to Gabiani, the palace was built on the grounds of a massive stronghold belonging to the Turco family. In 1442, an act of purchase of assets and funds of the Turco family by the Mazzetti di Frinco appears. It is on the basis of this document that Gabiani also hypothesizes the sale of the Palace, even if no mention is made of it.

According to the latest assumptions, it is probable that before the construction, there were small houses, little by little purchased by Mazzetti, and in the seventeenth century, the consolidation of the buildings began with the construction of the Palace. In 1730 there was the construction of the gallery on the first floor, and continued in 1751 with the construction of the facade, the atrium, the staircase and the rooms east of the gallery.

Purchased by the Cassa di Risparmio di Asti in 1937, three years later it granted the Municipality to set up the Museum and the Civic Art Gallery. Since 2001, owned by the Cassa di Risparmio di Asti Foundation, in December 2011 it reopens to the public completely refurbished and restored. Inside you can visit the cellar floor, with the pantries and the icebox and the permanent archaeological exhibition "Souvenir m'en doit", the noble floor with the historical rooms and the second floor set up only in the Pinacoteca. In the Civic Collections there are several sections on display.
