GES-2 - V-A-C Foundation - Moscow

V-A-C Foundation is an international non-profit private organization founded in 2009 with an emphasis on supporting contemporary art exhibitions and projects emerging from Russia and the former Soviet Union.

Founded in 2009 by businessman and philanthropist Leonid Mikhelson, under the Directorship of Teresa Iarocci Mavica.

The V-A-C Foundation in Moscow is a nonprofit organization that initiates, supports, presents, and preserves contemporary art projects by internationally-based visual and multidisciplinary artists, with a particular emphasis on artists located in, or emerging from, the Russian Federation and the former Soviet Union.

It is an open discussion platform aimed at redefining the contemporary landscape.

Working with local communities, V-A-C promotes exhibition, editorial, performative and learning programs outside all disciplinary boundaries and therefore constantly restores the coordinates for dialogue within a new global geography.

This methodology is applied to all V-A-C initiatives, which take place in its Venetian space, through international and inter-institutional collaborations and in its future headquarters for art and culture in Moscow, GES-2.

V-A-C Collection is a constantly developing body of work from both emerging and leading, internationally recognised artists such as Francis Bacon, Alighiero e Boetti, Marcel Broodthaers, Liz Deschenes, Natalia Goncharova, Wade Guyton, Wassily Kandinsky, Lucy McKenzie, Amedeo Modigliani, Sigmar Polke to Mike Nelson, James Richards, Gerhard Richter, Bridget Riley, Egon Schiele, Dayanita Singh, Hito Steyerl and Christopher Wool.

In 2015, architect Renzo Piano was commissioned to design the headquarters of the foundation (GES-2) in Moscow.

GES-2 is the new important art site and the future home of V-A-C in Moscow.

The entire area of 20,000 square metres is being redesigned by Renzo Piano Building Workshop.

Currently in the construction phase, the main building being restored and redesigned is a historic power station dating back to the early 1900s.

GES-2 will launch in different stages, starting in Autumn 2019.
