Punic port of Carthage

The Port of Carthage was one of the most important ports of antiquity, located on the northeast coast of present-day Tunisia, near the city of Carthage. It was one of the main ports in the western Mediterranean and its strategic location made it an important commercial center for Mediterranean peoples.

The port was composed of two main parts: the commercial port and the military port.

The commercial port consisted of a series of quays, warehouses, and arsenals, where commercial activities took place, while the military port was used for naval operations of the Carthaginian fleet. The port was protected by a series of moles and dams, which shielded it from storms and tides.

In addition, the entrance to the port was protected by a fortress called "Byrsa", which also served as the administrative center of the city.

The Port of Carthage was one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean for many centuries, until the city was destroyed in 146 BC during the Third Punic War. Today, the port has been reconstructed and is still in use as a commercial and tourist port.
