Medio Campidano Province


In the central-southern part of Sardinia, Medio Campidano is located, the province established for the first time in 2001, it was active since 2016.

The origin of the province dates back to the Royal Edict of May 4, 1807, with which Sardinia was divided into fifteen prefectures, including the one comprising the historical-geographical region of Medio Campidano, based in Villacidro.

The municipalities assigned to this province by regional law n ° 9 of 12 July 2001 were twenty-eight: Arbus, Barumini, Collinas, Furtei, Genuri, Gesturi, Gonnosfanadiga, Guspini, Las Plassas, Lunamatrona, Pabillonis, Pauli Arbarei, Samassi, San Gavino Monreale , Sanluri, Sardara, Segariu, Serramanna, Serrenti, Setzu, Siddi, Tuili, Turri, Ussaramanna, Villacidro, Villamar, Villanovaforru, Villanovafranca, all previously included in the Province of Cagliari.

The spin-off from the latter took place with the 2005 elections, when the new province became operational.
