Livio de Carolis Fountain - Fountain of the Madonna della Neve

The Livio de Carolis Fountain is a monumental fountain of the city of Frosinone

It was also called the Fountain of the Madonna della Neve because it stood in front of the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Neve.

The fountain is attributed to the architect and engraver Alessandro Specchi, known as the author, together with the architect Francesco De Sanctis, of the famous steps of Trinità dei Monti in Rome.

Specchi designed the fountain in 1711, in the immediate vicinity of the pre-existing Sanctuary of the Madonna della Neve, at the behest of Livio de Carolis, Marquis of Prossedi and General of the Pontifical Post Office.

He also commissioned a large palace from Specchi in via del Corso in Rome, known as Palazzo De Carolis.

The creation of the fountain was made possible thanks to the aqueduct donated to the city by the Molella family.
