Ciriè

Cirié is an Italian town in the metropolitan city of Turin in Piedmont.

At the foot of the Vaude plateau, surrounded by the natural pre-Alpine scenery.

The city has Roman origins and stood in an area with large forests: this is perhaps why it had the name of "Castrum Cerretum" (or just "Cerretum") which, with the advent of Christianity, became "Ciriacum" following the use of choose a patron saint (San Ciriaco) with the closest name to your own.

There are testimonies starting from 1200, when it became a fief of the Marquises of Monferrato; with the death of Giovanni del Monferrato it passed to the Savoy and was assigned to his widow who was Margherita of Savoy. The city had a wall with 14 towers.

In the Middle Ages the most important street of Ciriè was the Via Maestra, which divided the village and its neighborhoods in half; in the fifteenth century the noble, important and wealthy families built their houses and their "palaces" with arcades on the ground floor, where artisans, merchants and freelancers exercised their activities.

The orchards and gardens were confined to the outside of the walls.
