IV Novembre Park

The IV Novembre Park is still called by many Pordenone residents "public garden" since it was built around 1856 by the civic administration, exploiting the space created between the center and the Capuchin district after the construction of the railway embankment.

In 1903 the garden hosted an important Agricultural Exhibition and then regularly the animal market, moved there from Piazza della Motta, where it has been held every Wednesday since 1594.

It is therefore likely that the design of the park took into account its main use as a boarium hole, both for the numerous radially arranged entrances, and for the concentric planting of the trees, designed to allow animals to snuggle, also guaranteeing their stop in the shade during the summer heat.

The circular series originally consisted of horse chestnuts (plants with a high shading power) cut during the Great War and then replaced with lime trees, certainly already present in the most central area of ??the park. In later times, various evergreens were added, such as spruce, cypress, yew and thuja.

The circular layout of the garden today is highlighted by some specimens of laurel, pruned with an elegant conical or cylindrical geometry. The park also preserves some statues and stone capitals.

The IV Novembre Park plays an important ecological connection between the Querini Park, the tree-lined area of ??Piazzale Marcolin and the green banks of the Noncello, guaranteeing continuity to the green belt that embraces the city of Pordenone, extending from the opposite side up to the Park. Galvani to continue then, almost without interruption, towards the Park of the Castle of Torre, through the Park of the Seminary.
