The basilica of Santi Silvestro e Martino ai Monti - Virtual Tour 360°

The basilica of Santi Silvestro e Martino ai Monti, also known as San Martino ai Monti, is a Catholic place of worship in the historic center of Rome, located in the Monti district, and entrusted for centuries to the Carmelite friars of the ancient observance.

The cardinal title of Saints Silvestro and Martino ai Monti insists on the basilica, ruled by Kazimierz Nycz since 2010. The current church of San Martino ai Monti dates from the Carolingian era, but a colonnaded structure of the third century has been identified under and next to a later church.

In 500, the church was rebuilt and dedicated to Saints Martin of Tours and to Pope Sylvester I by Pope Simmaco.

On this occasion, the church was raised and the first oratory became underground. The current church structure follows the old church and many parts have been reused.
