Residential District of Crescenzago

The Naviglio della Martesana flows through the residential district of Crescenzago (Milan), known for the church of Santa Maria Rossa, an elegant red brick church with frescoed vaults.

Not far away, there is the church of San Gerolamo Emiliani, built in the 1960s, which has a stained glass facade.

Via Padova is dotted with pizzerias for families and informal restaurants, while open-air concerts are held at the Martesana Amphitheater in the Martiri Park, full of frescoes.

The district, characterized by the presence of numerous farmhouses, where various holiday residences were built in the eighteenth century for wealthy Milanese: a classic example are the villas De Ponti (dating back to the nineteenth century, and with a spinning mill inside the garden), Lecchi (XVIII century), Brasca, Pallavicini, Petrovic (XIX century).

At the time this area, known as the Riviera di Milano, was considered of quality, with the land cultivated with cereals and mulberry trees.
