Civic Museum of the South Lagoon

The Civic Museum of the South Lagoon, also known as the San Francesco fuori le Mura Museum, is an archaeological and ethnographic museum in Chioggia and one of the main ones in the Venice lagoon area.

The original building dates back to 1315, while its reconstruction, after the destruction that took place during the war in Chioggia between the Serenissima Republic of Venice and the Republic of Genoa, dates back to 1434.

Already in 1868 the Municipality of Chioggia had acquired the book collection of the oratory of the Philippine Fathers giving life to the civic library of Chioggia, named after Cristoforo Sabbadino, illustrious engineer of the Serenissima.
