Munch Museum

The Munch Museum (Norwegian: Munch-Museet) is a painting museum dedicated to the artist Edvard Munch. Inside it houses about 1100 paintings, 3000 drawings and 18000 lithographs.

It stands in Tøyen in northeastern Oslo, Norway, next to the botanical garden and natural history museum.

In the fall of 2021, the new MUNCH will open on Oslo's waterfront, tailor-made for great artistic experiences. Here you can experience more of Edvard Munch than ever, in entirely new ways. The new museum will offer art and culture on 13 floors and inspire everyone to get closer to Munch's life and art.

Our new museum will be a meeting place for cultural events for everyone. We want to expand our understanding of what a museum is and open up entirely new experiences and perspectives.

- In the new museum, the public will be able to experience the highlights of Edvard Munch's art at any time, alongside the temporary exhibitions with other artists, says director Stein Olav Henrichsen.

He cares about the significance of the collection as a cultural heritage, not only for Norway, but for the whole world.
