Loggia of the Council or of the Grand Guard

The Loggia del Consiglio also known as Loggia della Gran Guardia is a Renaissance building that overlooks Piazza dei Signori in Padua.

It was built starting from 1496 as the seat of the Grand Council.

It was built on a project by Annibale Maggi and then completed by Giovanni Maria Falconetto in 1553, but the leaden canopy roof remained incomplete.

The upper room was frescoed in 1667 by Pier Antonio Torri.

During the Austrian domination it became the seat of the "Gran Guardia", the military command of the cities.
