Museum of the University of Biomedical Sciences - OND Palace

The Museum of Biomedical Sciences of Chieti is a medical museum of Abruzzo.

The museum is housed in OND Palace - "Opera Nazionale Dopolavoro" which is an interesting building in the rational-eclectic style of the fascist era, designed by Camillo Guerra to house the spaces of the OND, a state body dedicated to the recreational rest of state workers.

The building, with its monumental double staircase and spiral staircases that "twist" around the soaring profile of two enormous lictor beams, symbols of the time, is in a good state of conservation, although it would require restoration, and it is the current seat of the Museum of the History of Biomedical Sciences of the Gabriele D'Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara.

It was born in 1994 in Palazzo De Pasquale, promoted by Luigi Capasso. The D'Annunzio University took over the management of the Museum in 2010.

It is dedicated to the knowledge and dissemination of Natural Sciences and the History of Science, focusing on the biological and medical aspects deriving from research in archeology, medicine, anthropology and paleontology.

It covers an area of ??over 16,000 square feet (1,500 m2). In 2005 the Museum of Biomedical Sciences moved to Palazzo Arnaldo Mussolini in the historic center of Chieti.

It currently houses a collection of over 19,000 documents in the fields of paleontology, prehistory, anthropology, botany and zoology. Additionally, it includes scientific instruments and modern artwork. The Museum of Biomedical Sciences is a member of the International Council of Museums.
