Antonio Gramsci House Museum


The Antonio Gramsci House Museum is a museum house located in the historic center of Ghilarza, in a modest basalt house from the late nineteenth century.

Antonio Gramsci was born in Ales in 1891 and died in Rome on April 27, 1937, he was one of the founders of the Italian Communist Party, political leader and philosopher among the greatest of the twentieth century.

Gramsci lived in Ghilarza between 1898 and 1914, Ghilarza being the town of his mother.

The Antonio Gramsci House Museum was purchased by the PCI in 1965 and later became the seat of the "Friends of the Gramsci House".

In the seventies and eighties it became a place for cultural exchanges. In 2016 it was declared a national monument.
