Church of Santa Maria di Montesanto

The Church of Santa Maria di Montesanto and the adjoining monastery were built in Naples by a community of Sicilian Carmelites originally from Montesanto.

The construction was entrusted to the architect Pietro De Marino, but the works were completed by Dionisio Lazzari, to whom we owe the dome (1680).

The stuccoes on the facade, recreated in the 19th century, are by Angelo Viva and depict the Madonna del Carmelo.

For a long time it was entrusted to the care of the Music Masters of the Royal Palatine Chapel and is known because Alessandro Scarlatti († 1725), Leonardo Leo († 1744), Pasquale Cafaro († 1787) and other musicians of the Royal Chapel are buried there, such as you can read from the marble plaque on the right affixed by Cafaro in 1777.
