Diego Sandoval of Castro Castle - Nova Siri Castle - Virtual Tour 360°

In the historic center of Nova Siri (Matera - Basilicata), at the highest point of the town, you can admire the castle. It was built around the 9th century and was, until 1806, the seat of the feudal lords of Bollita (De Castro, Asprella, Raimondi, Crivelli).

The name of the De Castro family has remained famous in the history of literature for the poetic inspiration of their son Diego, whose name is linked to that of the poetess of Favale (Valsinni) Isabella Morra, both killed for an alleged love affair.

The castle is a massive palace built on natural foundations, with a vast atrium without a portal and a high wall with slits on the front. It is currently used as private homes which have changed the original appearance of the atrium. Only the eighteenth-century wrought iron balconies remain.

The castle is open for visits.
