Villa Cavazza Querini - Cà Settecento

Villa Cavazza Querini, known as Cà Settecento located in Visinale, is one of the oldest in western Friuli: it was completed in 1542, at the behest of the important Venetian Cavazza family. In the mid-17th century the property passed to the Querinis.

Querini is a patrician family from Venice belonging to the group of original families, present at the time of the foundation of the Serenissima.

In 1720 the villa was completely renovated and enlarged by the Querinis with various interventions which, overall, gave it its current structure; at that juncture the modification of the façade was arranged to give it greater monumentality, the expansion of the west wing in the 18th century - followed by that of the east wing, in the 19th century - and the construction of a small church dedicated to the SS. Peter and Paul, which bears a frescoed sundial.

The entire villa is surrounded by a boundary wall decorated with fine eighteenth-century statues. In front of the building, some statues beheaded at the hands of the Germans during the occupation of the First World War remain.

The current residence, thus restructured, was subsequently owned by the family of Commendatore A. d'Agostino, a renowned economist and banker, who kept it until the early years of the 21st century. Over time, the house was frequented by historical figures, friends of the owners, becoming a meeting place for famous occasions.

Tradition has it that the villa also hosted Gabriele D'Annunzio, who, in the course of his aviation exploits, would have coined the motto "Eia, eia, alalà" here.

Recently, the Sanarica family, with over thirty years of experience in the hotel and restaurant sector, took over the property in the west wing with the idea of ??using it as an accommodation facility, creating a period residence. The project has made it possible to revive a portion of the villa, which, uninhabited for several years, would otherwise have been destined to survive a serious state of neglect. The restoration work was completed in 2017, under the supervision of the Superintendence of Fine Arts of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. In the project, the recovery of the three floors of the structure was prepared, creating the private residence and guest rooms, thus allowing you to experience the ancient beauty recovered through the sharing of common spaces.
