Gino Capriolo Theater Library

The "Gino Capriolo" Theater Library, located at the offices of the current SIAE headquarters in Naples, consists of the collection of texts, documents and correspondence collected and donated in 1959 by the lawyer Dear Capriolo and by the theater writer Paola Riccora (pseudonym of Emilia Vaglio), to honor the untimely death of her son Gino Capriolo.

The collection is made up of about twenty-five thousand texts including manuscript and typescript scripts; periodicals, magazines, newspapers containing theatrical chronicles of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, monographic volumes and series; posters and advertising articles and other material of great historical interest.

Worthy of note is the collection of texts from the nineteenth century French theater with rare collections and works from the Italian theater in addition to classical masterpieces.

There are also very rare books such as the first edition of Goldoni's Complete Theater, published by Zatta in 1788, works by Gozzi published by Zanardi in 1800, several volumes of the "Magasin Théâtral" of the publisher Marchant - 1834, many works by E. Scribe of the late nineteenth century. The collections of theatrical magazines such as “Il Dramma”, “Comoedia”, “Sipario”, “Scenario” are interesting.

Of the Neapolitan dialectal theater there are rare texts of the eighteenth century, to then reach the repertoire of Petito, Murolo, Scarpetta, Bovio, Di Giacomo, Raffaele Viviani, Eduardo and Peppino De Filippo. By Eduardo there is an autographed edition from the 1930s of the comedy "Sik Sik the magic craftsman". There are also examples of the Venetian, Sicilian, Milanese and Tuscan theater.
